JOHNSON IDENTIFIES LIVERPOOL PLAYER’S PROBLEM

Glen Johnson believes confidence is the only problem that Liverpool right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold has as he backed him to return to his best very soon. Trent has been in the spotlight for a few weeks after he was snubbed by England manager Gareth Southgate ahead of the World Cup 2022 qualifiers last month.

The Liverpool player was missing as England began their World Cup qualifying campaign with three wins from as many games. Without Trent in his squad, Southgate guided England to home victories over Andorra and Poland with an away victory at Albania in between those two home matches.

England manager Southgate opted for other right-back options like Manchester City star Kyle Walker, Atletico Madrid player Kieran Trippier and young Chelsea defender Reece James ahead of Trent.

Glen Johnson talked about Trent and his former club Liverpool while he was on Sky Sports last week. According to ex-Chelsea, West Ham United and Portsmouth right-back Glen Johnson, Trent is the victim of his own person having set a high standard for himself over the course of the previous two seasons as confirmed by the aforementioned Southgate.

The England manager while explaining his decision to leave Trent out of his squad at the end of last month said the Liverpool defender has not hit the heights of the last two seasons.

Trent has shown a lot of character with his performances for Liverpool since he was dropped for the England squad. He has scored one goal and assisted another in his two league games since then. Trent provided the assist for Diogo Jota to score the opening goal of the game in the 3-0 away win over Arsenal shortly after the international break. He then scored the winning goal in the next league outing, a 2-1 comeback win at home to Aston Villa.
